Gallows Sewing Frame

The binding material is put under tension, by turning the nuts, on which the "gallows" rests, upwards. Binding material of greatly varying thicknesses (from parchment strips to 5mm thick hemp cord) is held firmly in place by the adjustable screw at the front. 

This beautiful and, for book restorers, indispensable piece of equipment is hand-made from beechwood with great attention to detail.
The threaded spindles and nuts are turned from the wood of a pear tree. The device can be dismantled for transport and can be easily and quickly assembled again.
