For the sizing of paper in the leafcasting process
replaces the product Empresol N
Cold water soluble, cationic starch ether
Properties: Solvitose PLV is a starch derivative, which is completely retained in the paper. As cationic starch, it improves the retention of fibres on the mesh as well as improving the mechanical stability of the paper. Solvitose can be used in the pH range 4-9.
Appearance: white to pale yellow flakes, unlimited shelf life if stored dry.
Solubility: rapid and complete in cold water.
Solution: stable, non-corrosive, opaque, , pH (10% solution) circa 8
Manufacturer`s recommendation for production of paper: 8% solid matter for air-dried fibres. The weighing of such small quantities is simplified by preparing a stock solution as follows: mix 10g Solvitose PLV into 500ml luke-warm water, allow to swell, stir occasionally, then sieve if necessary.
For each leafcasting process, 4ml of this stock solution is added to 1g of fibres (simply pour in with a small measuring cup and mix into the fibre suspension).
